Tonya Sonsteng, P.E. 
Geotechnical Engineering Team Lead

Tonya Sonsteng brings more than 15 years of project and team management and geotechnical engineering experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, and site development projects across Central and South Texas. She is known for her strong command of the region’s geologic formations, her expertise in transportation foundation and pavement design, and her practical, solutions-oriented approach to subsurface evaluation and construction support.

Tonya’s background includes leading geotechnical investigations, developing soil stabilization strategies, performing construction inspections, and preparing comprehensive geotechnical analyses and design reports. She has provided foundation and site development recommendations for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, pavements, and other critical infrastructure, working closely with public agencies, design teams, and contractors to ensure safe, durable, and constructible outcomes. Tonya is highly regarded for her ability to translate field observations into clear, actionable design recommendations and to guide multidisciplinary teams through complex field logistics, evolving subsurface conditions, and fast-paced project schedules.

Tonya is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science & Technology. She is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Heart of Texas Chapter.
